Biographical Information:

Professor Durisen is currently the departmental director of graduate studies. He joined the IU Astronomy faculty in 1976. He received a B.S. in Physics from Fordham University in 1967 and a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Princeton University in 1972. He held postdoctoral fellowships at U.C. Santa Cruz and NASA-Ames Research Center. Professor Durisen has had extended research leaves at NASA-Ames Research Center as an NRC Research Associate and at Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics as Fulbright Fellow and an Alexander von Humboldt U.S. Senior Scientist Awardee. He typically teaches A100 (The Solar System), A103 (Search for Habitable Planets), A520 (The Interstellar Medium), and A550 (Stellar Interiors).

Research Interests:

Simulations of fluid and particle system dynamics applied to star and planet formation, the structure and stability of astrophysical disks, and planetary ring systems.
